Ramblings of Madmen
Drawing upon Paul Feyerabend's critique of established methodologies, Ramblings of Madmen examines the possibility that creative progress is dependent upon the disruption of accepted practices. Feyerabend argued that violations of established methods are not simply failures of understanding, but are often necessary for progress. In an attempt to challenge these conventions, I began constructing temporary sculptures from found objects within my home, allowing myself only five minutes to complete each work before photographing it. Through this deliberately constrained and performative process, photography becomes a vessel through which the act of creation and its resulting artifacts are documented. Rather than treating the sculptures as subjects of inherent significance, Ramblings of Madmen questions the expectations we place upon photographic representation and the possibility that meaning can emerge through the very act of challenging those expectations.
